City of Aiken officials said mulch ground down from February’s ice storm debris should be ready for pickup in two weeks.

City Manager Richard Pearce said collection and the use of the mulch will be at one’s own risk. The ground up debris will be in its natural state, and not chemically treated in any way. The mulch will be a mixed bag of pine, pine needles and hardwood.

Mulch will be free to the public, and Pearce said the City should be releasing an announcement about mulch collection very soon.

Residents can pickup mulch on a first come, first served basis. The mulch pile will be located on the Stewart Field section of Citizens Park on Barry Johnson Boulevard, across from the Sprayground.

Citizens Park’s main entrance is located at 1060 Banks Mill Road.
