An Aiken woman was detained after she allegedly struck her daughter on her face and arms with a cellphone charger, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Laqwania Alicia Whiteside, 31, of Canvas Back Circle, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and placed in the Aiken County detention center, where she remained on Friday morning.
Officers were called to Aiken Middle School on Tuesday in reference to possible child abuse, according to an incident report.
An officer noticed “several raised bruises” on the girl’s arms and face and asked her how it happened.
“The juvenile then stated that her mom hit her with a cellphone charger,” the report stated. The Department of Social Services responded to the scene.
The report did not indicate the victim’s age.
Whiteside was arrested in 2001 for criminal domestic violence, according to the detention center website.
