Letter: Global warming threat overstated
A three sentence summary of the title, editorial and inserted picture from March 21 as seen by me. Itís a shame that the U.S. does not have their energy house in order to offset Russian President Vladimir Putinís power play in Ukraine. We could be providing renewable energy, but it would not get there in time. Natural gas would work, but we are not ready to export at this time and the environmental movement has not accepted natural gas development because it is a fossil fuel and the hydraulic fracking problem.
The Aiken Standard has supported the environmental proposition that we need to move to the future now on non fossil fuels, at what cost? Most of neither the world nor I live in that now dream world. Are we still waiting to drill on 8 percent of the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge, off the east and west coasts of the U.S., federal shale lands and for approval of the Keystone Pipe Line? Germany embraced the green movement and their electrical costs are currently disrupting their economy. Germany also relies on Russia for natural gas (the least bad of the fossil fuels). The government and environmental groups give grants to investigate global warming. In the last 15 years, the global temperature has only gone up 0.04 degrees Celsius per decade from the 1961-1990 mean in the last fifteen years. The amount of carbon dioxide has continued to increase globally although the U.S. has not increased their carbon dioxide output; China, India, Brazil and the remainder of the world has. Have you reported this information in the Standard or even believe that it could be true?
The environmental movement is like a religion when it comes to the release of carbon dioxide, any doubt that man made carbon dioxide is not the cause of global warming is treated as heresy. A good portion of the researchers are like defense attorneys, they will work for your cause if the pay is right. I donít know how many are now aware that they are on the wrong side of this case.
