Boys’ Soccer

Silver Bluff 2

North Augusta 1 (PK)

After playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and overtime, Silver Bluff (8-2) made six penalty kicks to North Augusta’s five in a shootout.

Izaak Martinez had the Bulldogs’ lone goal in regulation on a Darwin Nunez assist, and Martinez, Edy Zambrano, Jesse Eisenman, Pepe Zambrano, Nerlin Nunez and Alejandro Cortes all scored in the shootout.

James Jacks had 15 saves in goal for Silver Bluff, which will host Aiken on Monday.

Girls’ Soccer

Midland Valley 5

Strom Thurmond 2

Sara Grace McClane scored a hat trick, notching three goals in a Region 5-AAA win for Midland Valley (5-5, 1-3) over Strom Thurmond on Thursday.

Zoe Hawkins did the rest of the work offensively with a pair of goals of her own, and Carlie Beecher and Amber Abney split time in goal for the Mustangs. Midland Valley will be back in action on Monday with a road match at Brookland-Cayce.

Softball

Laurens Academy 6

Wardlaw Academy 5

Wardlaw (9-6) took the close loss against Laurens Academy with Savannah Rodgers (8-4) in the circle.

Parker Wilkes and JoJo Allen had two hits each for the Patriots, and Carrie Ann Quarles added a double. Wardlaw will next host King Academy on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Silver Bluff 11-7

Calhoun County 3-0

Silver Bluff (11-5, 7-1 Region 5-AA) swept its doubleheader against region foe Calhoun County.

In the first game, the Bulldogs jumped to an early lead with an eight-run first inning to support starting pitcher Haley Key, who recorded nine strikeouts. Tamia Ruffin, Iyceiss Drayton and Haley Pou each had two hits in the opener.

In the nightcap, Jamea Monroe and Ashley Matlock had two hits each, as starting pitcher Karly Kinard struck out 13 Saints.

Silver Bluff’s next game will be on Monday, when the Bulldogs hit the road to face Edisto.

Midland Valley 18

Strom Thurmond 3

With Emily Mayson in the circle, Midland Valley (13-3, 6-2 Region 5-AAA) rolled past region foe Strom Thurmond (3-12, 1-9).

Mayson improved her record to 10-2 on the season.

Taylor Allen led the Mustangs with four hits, including a home run and a double and had three RBIs, while CJ Wilson had three hits and Amber Hong had two.

Midland Valley also won the junior varsity game 21-1 with Logan Mabry in the circle, to push the Mustangs’ record to 8-3. Hailey Fittery went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Brittney Pixley went 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Strom Thurmond will be back in action on Wednesday at Aiken, while Midland Valley will play a varsity game at South Aiken on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
