UPDATED: Shooting leaves North Augusta man dead, another injured

A North Augusta man is dead after a shooting occurred in Augusta early this morning.

Antonio Counts, 28, of Petal Place in North Augusta was killed, according to Richmond County Coroner Kenneth Boose.

The incident occurred at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to Broad Street at the onramp to Highway 1 in reference to gunshots being fired, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Moments later, North Augusta Public Safety located Counts’ vehicle in a ditch on the 6000 block of Hwy. 1, the release stated.

Police found Counts deceased in the vehicle with several apparent gunshot wounds, and a passenger, Donald Hill, 34, of Liberty Hill in North Augusta, wounded by gunshots but still alive, the release stated.

Hill was transported to an Augusta hospital where he is in stable condition, police said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1080.
