Two men were detained for strong-arm robbery on Thursday after they took money from a woman who was trying to purchase a video game console from them, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Austin Harrell, 23, of Glencarin Drive, and 17-year-old Robert Teeter were each charged with strong-arm robbery and placed in the Aiken County detention center, where they remained on Friday morning.
The incident happened about 1 a.m. Thursday at Steeplechase Apartments, according to an incident report. The 19-year-old victim had talked with Teeter on the phone about buying a Playstation 3 game console, and they met in a stairwell of the apartment. The victim said she pulled out her money and began counting it when Harrell snatched the cash from her.
“Harrell then told her not to call the cops and that she just got robbed,” the report stated.
Teeter and Harrell walked away fast to a trail in the woods, knowing that the victim could not run due to medical issues, police said. They took about $100.
Harrell and Teeter were later apprehended at a nearby intersection. They told officers the victim was trying to purchase drugs from them.
