A 26-year-old Aiken woman said she was the victim of a scammer posing as a possible employer, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
The incident happened about 1:40 p.m. on Monday at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, according to a report. The victim said the suspect approached her at the hospital and told her he was the manager of Shaw Industries, and that for $20 he would take her application and apply the fee toward her drug test.
The report didn’t indicate why the victim was at the hospital. She contacted Shaw and found out the suspect didn’t work there, the report stated. She told police she was “scammed” and wanted her money back.
The victim provided a description of the suspect; however, officers were unable to locate him around the hospital. Police said the suspect would be charged with soliciting without a license if he is caught.
