An Aiken man was allegedly assaulted while walking in downtown Aiken on Saturday, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. on Laurens Street, according to an incident report.

The 53-year-old victim told officers he was downtown and called a friend for a ride home. While walking past Hotel Aiken, the victim said two men walked out the front doors of the hotel and followed him onto Laurens Street.

The victim said he could hear the men “talking about robbing him,” and that one of the men approached him near The Alley, the report stated.

One of the men reportedly told the other “to do what he had to,” in reference to the potential robbery.

One of the men walked to and then punched the victim on the left side of the face, causing him to fall down, police said.

The victim had visible redness and swelling on the side of his face. The suspect got into a dark two-door sports car and fled the scene.

The report did not indicate what the other suspect did.
