Letter: Graham not a true conservative
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., talks like a conservative, but votes like a liberal. Either he’s intentionally deceitful or terminally confused, and South Carolina shouldn’t tolerate either quality in their senior senator.
Consider the following: Graham supports arming Al-Qaida/the Muslim Brotherhood revolutionaries in Syria, supports amnesty for illegal aliens, but not border control and supports NSA spying on American citizens.
In addition, he opposed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s courageous filibuster against Obamacare, opposed medical malpractice tort reform, opposed making former President George Bush’s tax cuts permanent and opposed some of Bush’s conservative judicial nominees.
Where is Graham’s self-proclaimed conservatism in any of this? By any objective measurement, he’s one of the most liberal Republican members of the U.S. Senate. This is an embarrassment for deep red state South Carolina Republicans. He’d be a fine senator from, say, Maine, but not our consciously conservative state.
It’s time for Graham to go. On June 10, Republicans need to support one of the conservative alternatives on the primary ballot.
