Ours is the only republic in history built on the premise that certain rights are granted by our creator and they are unalienable. These are listed in the first 10 amendments to the Constitution and are called the Bill of Rights.


I find it disturbing that Cody Anderson – in his letter “Local case shows need to hinder gun violence” on Feb. 7 – believes the Second Amendment is a privilege and not a right. Does he think it should be called the Bill of Privileges? Anderson is in dire need of a civics lesson.
