Baseball

Aiken JV 10

Evans (Ga.) 5

Aiken (2-1) got seven innings from Chris Hudson (1-0) on the mound, as Hudson struck out five and allowed just two earned runs.

Nick Grover went 2-for-5 for the Hornets with two RBIS, and Michael McClintock was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Patrick Ferguson drove in a pair of runs.

Aiken will host rival South Aiken on Monday.

Aiken was led in the victory at Houndslake by medalist Spencer Skiff, who carded a 37. Alex Skiff, Daniel Blackwell and Endon Platt each shot a 44 for the Hornets. The Yellow Jackets were led by Ben Masterson and Travis Redd, who shot a 40 each, and Strom Thurmond got a 43 from Garrett Gibson.

The Hornets will be in Sumter on Monday and Tuesday for the Magnolia Invitational.

Airport 182

Midland Valley came up short despite medalist honors for Seth Toole, who shot a 36 at Midland Valley Country Club. Jonathan Mitchell added a 42 for the Mustangs, Noah Turner had a 47 and Skyler Curry had a 48.

Midland Valley will return to the links on Tuesday at Airport.

Softball

North Augusta 4

White Knoll 2

North Augusta (5-1, 2-0 Region 5-AAAA) stayed unbeaten in region play, and Megan Whitfield picked up the win in the circle.

Carly Heath was the the Jackets' leading hitter at 4-for-4 with a double, and Grace Flanders went 2-for-3 with a home run. Kaleigh Busbee chipped in a triple.

North Augusta will hist the road on Tuesday to play South Aiken.

Lexington 7

South Aiken 0

South Aiken (1-5, 0-2 Region 5-AAAA) got shut out in region play with Hannah Martin (1-3) taking the loss in the circle.

The T-Breds will be back on the field today at 5:30 p.m., when they travel to play Midland Valley in an Ovarian Cancer Awareness game. Both teams will wear teal for the event.

Midland Valley (6-1, 1-0 Region 5-AAA) opened region play with a resounding win over Swansea.

Emily Mayson (5-0) tossed five innings of one-hit ball and also went 4-for-5 at the plate. Amber Hong was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Aslyn Romeo was 4-for-5.

The Mustangs will be back in action today at 5:30 p.m., when they travel to play South Aiken in an Ovarian Cancer Awareness game.

South Aiken JV 8

Lexington 6

South Aiken (1-1) picked up the win with Megan Martin (1-1) in the circle.

The T-Breds spread the hits around offensively, but Maci Hutto distinguished herself with a 1-for-2 effort that included a triple and an RBI.

South Aiken will be back in action on Tuesday, when it hosts North Augusta.

Midland Valley JV 19

Swansea 1

Midland Valley (1-1, 1-0 Region 5-AAA) made easy work of Swansea with Taylor Smith (1-0) collecting the pitching win.

Mallory Hodges was the team's leading hitter with a 3-for-4 effort that included six RBIS, a double and a home run, while Nina Carlin and Erica Faircloth each went 2-for 4. Faircloth added two doubles and five RBIs.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Monday at Gilbert.

Boys’ Tennis

South Aiken 5

Lexington 1

Despite a loss by Stefan Zotovic in No. 1 singles, South Aiken (3-0, 2-0 Region 5-AAAA) knocked off region foe Lexington on the road. Preston Tiffany, Petar Zotovic, Jonny Bowman and Marco Zotovic each won in straight sets in singles play, and Zach Thatcher and Matthew Willis brought home a straight-sets win in No. 2 doubles.
