Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., has nominated 59 students from all over South Carolina to be considered for an appointment to one of the nation’s military academies.
“I am extremely proud to nominate all of these bright and hardworking young people for service in our military academies,” he said. “Our armed forces are the very best in the world, and I have no doubt that these students will be commendable additions. South Carolina has a deep respect for our military and their families, and we are grateful to them and all who serve.”
United States Senators are able to select a group of students from their state each year to be considered for an appointment to attend one of four U.S. Military Service Academies: The United States Air Force Academy, The United States Merchant Marine Academy, The United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy.
Local nominees are: Mark Tisler of Aiken, nominated to the Naval Academy; Avery Tyrrell of North Augusta, nominated to the Air Force Academy; and Tracey Hoel of Aiken, nominated to the Military Academy.
