The Aiken Singers is currently taking applications for the 2014 Diane Haslam Vocal Performance Scholarship.

The Diane Haslam Vocal Performance Scholarship was established December 2010 by the Aiken Singers board and is intended to benefit high school seniors studying or living in Aiken, Barnwell and Edgefield Counties who are committed to the study of vocal performance at the college/university level.

The 2014 scholarship to be awarded is a $500 stipend.

The scholarship committee will choose finalists based on the applications received. A juried audition will be held in Aiken in May to select the winner. Selection for the scholarship will be based upon a combination of the applicant's talent and recommendations from music teachers, school representatives or other professionals within the community. Evidence of community participation will also play a role in their decision.

Students singing in a community choir, church choir, participating in local musicals and other musical based activities will be given special consideration.

The scholarship will be awarded June 1. All applicants will be informed of the selection results.

Applications may be obtained at area high schools or by visiting the Aiken Singers website at www.aikensingers.org.
