Aiken's junior varsity squad opened its season with a victory as Nick Grover earned a win on the mound after five innings of work with four strikeouts.
Grover was also big at the plate for the Hornets (1-0). He went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Matthew Abney, who struck out two in two relief innings also had multiple hits and an RBI. Chris Hudson also finished 2-for-4.

The Thoroughbreds swept the Blue Devils in tennis action on Monday.
Picking up wins for South Aiken in singles action were, Stefan Zotovic (6-0, 6-0), Preston Tiffany (6-1, 6-0), Petar Zotovic (6-0, 6-0), Jonny Bowman (6-0, 6-0) and Marko Zotovic (6-0, 6-0). The tandem of Zach Thatcher and Matthew Willis earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles matchup.
South Aiken (1-0) will welcome Dutch Fork to the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center today.
North Augusta 3 Midland Valley 0
Maddie Shiver and Kaleigh Busbee each homered as the Yellow Jackets (3-1) shut out Midland Valley in softball action on Monday. The tandem combined for all three of the teams RBIs.
Megan Whitfield was 2-for-3 in the game. Natalie Burke was the winning pitcher. North Augusta travels to Lexington today for a 7 p.m. game.

Breanna Benenhaley had two hits and an RBI in Strom Thurmond's season opening loss to Saluda. † †

The War Eagles opened the season with a loss despite Morgan Foster's six-strikeout performance. Morgan Gunter went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Wagener-Salley, who will play Blackville-Hilda today.

The Patriots (0-1) opened the season with a loss, but the team will be back in action against Saluda on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Aiken 2 Grovetown 1
Kelsee Sapp netted both of the goals for Aiken (1-0) in the win on assist from Sarah Fiscus and Emily Colster. Mackenzie Cude had five saves in goal for the Hornets, who take on Brookland-Cayce today.
Aiken 3 Grovetown 1
Aiken (5-1) got goals from Machi Provost, Joey Rabin and Billy John en route to its fifth victory of the season. Ian DeMass and Nate Snow each had assist in the game. Bradley Cardona stopped five shots in goal. Aiken's next game will be against Hepzibah.
Kennedy 192 LBC 207
Chad Carter was the individual medalist for the match as Kennedy Middle earned its first win of the season. The team will take to the course again on Thursday at Woodside.
