A Warrenville woman was detained on shoplifting and drug charges after she tried to take a cart full of merchandise from a store on Whiskey Road, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Sandy Delena Gordon, 34, of Swallowtail Lane, was charged with shoplifting-third or subsequent and possession of a controlled substance. She was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where she remained on Friday.

The incident happened at a store on Whiskey Road about 5 p.m. on Thursday, according to an incident report. Gordon allegedly concealed several items on herself and tried to push a shopping cart full of merchandise out the door without paying.

When confronted by store personnel, Gordon tried to run but was caught a short distance away, the report stated. Gordon did not deny the accusations after police arrived, and said she had multiple shoplifting violations. A search of Gordon revealed a quantity of blue pills inside a zipper pocket on her wallet which she said were Xanax.
