Two people were detained after they were found unconscious in a vehicle on Jefferson Davis Highway on Tuesday, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Lee Poole, 23, of Atomic Road in Beech Island, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and unlawful carry. Shikera Bates, 23, of Silver Bluff Road in Aiken, was charged with open container and disorderly conduct.

Poole and Bates were placed in the Aiken County detention center, where they remained on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to a parking lot on Jefferson Davis Highway in Clearwater about 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday, where they found Poole and Bates unconscious in a vehicle.

After waking the suspects, officers found a silver handgun under the front passenger seat, the report stated. Poole was found to have about 28 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana on him. Bates smelled strongly of alcohol and exhibited signs of intoxication. She was detained after being unable to answer how they had gotten to the parking lot.
