A public information drop-in meeting will be held on Tuesday on the proposed widening of Belvedere Clearwater Road.

The proposal is to widen the 1.87-mile stretch from Old Sudlow Lake Road to Jefferson Davis Highway.

S.C. Department of Transportation personnel will be at the meeting to answer questions from the public.

According to an advanced project planning report, the improvements are necessary due to the anticipation of future growth along that road.

In 2008, the average daily traffic volume was 9,900 vehicles per day. By 2030, that number is expected to increase to 20,920 per day, according to the report.

The plan is to expand that portion of the road from two lanes to five.

Not only will the project focus on increasing the capacity of the road, but there are also plans for a paved median, bike lanes and sidewalks.

The meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church at 4280 Jefferson Davis Highway in Clearwater.

The project is expected to cost approximately $5.7 million.

A brief presentation will be given at 6 p.m.

Informal written or verbal comments will be collected during the meeting.
