A Batesburg woman told police she doesn’t want them to investigate the fire that burned her home on Monday, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The Monetta Fire Department responded to a blaze at a home on Kneece Mill Road about 2 p.m. on Monday, according to a sheriff’s report. Fire crews responded to the scene and found no one inside the home. Fire officials said the fire was suspicious “with accelerant pour patterns” on the floors inside the home.

The homeowner said she didn’t want the Sheriff’s Office to investigate the fire and gave them a written statement. She said the suspect, her son, has multiple mental health issues. He was seen leaving the home naked as fire units arrived.

The woman took her son to Aiken Regional Medical Centers for evaluation.

The report did not indicate the extent of damage to the home.
