19-year-old dies in single-car crash in Jackson

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Jackson which resulted in the death of the driver.

The incident happened at approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2200 block of Green Pond Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, identified as Ja'net Crawford of North Silverton Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

Crawford, 19, was traveling home from a friend's house on Gray Mare Hollow Road at the time of the wreck, according to a witness.

Crawford's 2006 Chevrolet pickup was traveling south when she lost control of the vehicle, Carlton reported. The pickup left the roadway, went down a steep embankment and struck a tree.

Crawford was wearing a seat belt.

Toxicology is pending.
