Benefit buffet planned to aid injured store manager
A benefit buffet at Mario's Italian Kitchen will be held in manager Ralis Tucker's name to help cover medical expenses she incurred after being injured in a winter storm accident.
The all-you-can-eat Italian buffet will be held on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Mario's Italian Kitchen, located at 1142 York St. across from Bi-Lo on U.S. 1.
Tucker was involved in a vehicle collision during the icy weather in late January.
Tucker's Jeep SUV was traveling north on Edgefield Highway as it exited the right side of the road, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and travel back onto the roadway and into the southbound lane. Her car was struck by a southbound Chevrolet pickup, and Tucker was then transported to the trauma unit at Georgia Regents Medical Center.
A message posted on the restaurant's Facebook page after the accident indicated she had bleeding in the brain and a severe injury to one of her arms. The other driver was transported with only minor injuries.
A donation is required at the door. Tucker's medical bills for her injuries are estimated to be more than $200,000.
