A mid-morning apparent murder-suicide in North Augusta has resulted in the death of a father and son.

Aiken County coroner Tim Carlton said Samuel Hewlett, 52, and his son, Brandon Hewlett, 21, are dead in a shooting that occurred at 27 Woodvine Drive in North Augusta.

Carlton said that the murder-suicide appears to be the result of a family dispute in which the father took the son's life and then his own at around 9:30 a.m. The mother was not at home at the time of the shooting and made the discovery upon returning home, Carlton said.

Deputies responded to the address, located in the Windtree subdivision, at around 10:30 a.m.

Autopises are scheduled for Monday morning in Newberry.
