Veterinarian accused of touching children

An Aiken veterinarian has been detained on allegations that he inappropriately touched children, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Juan Carlos Gamboa, 52, was charged with two counts of lewd acts upon a child under 16. He was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Thursday afternoon.

Gamboa allegedly committed the acts over a three-month period, according to Capt. Eric Abdullah, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office. The two victims in this case are 8-year-old males.

Abdullah said the Sheriff's Office was contacted about Gamboa's alleged crimes on Nov. 18.

The case is still under investigation.

Gamboa has a veterinary office on Gamboa Place in Aiken, the services of which focus mainly on equine health.

Teddy Kulmala covers the crime beat for the Aiken Standard and has been with the newspaper since August 2012. He is a native of Williston and majored in communication studies at Clemson University.
