AIKEN, SC – Susie Mortenson entered eternal life on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at NHC in North Augusta, SC.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2013 at College First Church, Findlay, with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in the same city.
Born on August 3, 1920 in New Kensington, Pa., to George France West and Phoebe Hazel (Schall) West, she grew up in Templeton, Pa., was graduated in 1938 from Kittanning High School in Kittanning, Pa. She was graduated from Findlay College in Findlay, Ohio in 1950. She received a Master of Arts in English from Bowling Green State University in 1961. She had a long career of teaching English literature and writing on the secondary and college levels. She moved to Aiken in July of 2013.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Kathryn West McCullough, her second husband, William F. Wittenmyer, her third husband, John Mortenson.
Survivors include her children, Larry Wittenmyer and Kathy Linder Kraeling, both of Aiken; Nancy Wittenmyer Barger of Denver, Colorado; Krisanne Linder Hall of Celina, Ohio.
Surviving grandchildren include Mark Kraeling of Melbourne, Florida; Mollie Beth Kraeling Byrne of Clark, N.J.; Bill Wittenmyer of Santa Ana, California; Robert Wittenmyer of Sydney, Australia; Jonathan Michael Hall of Chesterfield, Va.; Nicholas Hall of Hilliard, Ohio; Andrew Hall of New Albany, Ohio.
She was a member of the College First Church of God where she has served as deaconess and elder. She was also a member of Chapter DN of P.E.O, Eastern Star, and the Retired Teachers’ Association; she was a former member of AAUW, and of Winebrenner Village Board of Trustees, all in Findlay, Ohio.
