Comments and questions are what the S.C. Department of Transportation wants to hear in regards to the conceptual widening designs for Hitchcock Parkway tonight.

The informal public information drop-in session will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 961 Trail Ridge Road off Hitchcock Parkway.

Conceptual widening designs will be presented around the room which individuals can visit and ask one-on-one questions of SCDOT and consultant firm representatives.

The session is informal, individuals can stay as long as they please, and the session is open to anyone who lives in the Aiken area or those who drive on the bypass on a daily basis, according to Kevin Gantt, program manager for SCDOT.

SCDOT's conceptual design plans include widening the bypass, turn lanes at major intersections, retaining walls at specific areas on the bypass, bicycle lanes on either end, the addition of curbs and gutters and a median in the center of the road with vegetation.

Residents unable to make the session can send comments and ask questions to SCDOT during a two–week period after the public-information session.
