Achonwa leads Irish women past Lions

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Natalie Achonwa had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 4 Notre Dame in a 77-67 victory over No. 10 Penn State on Wednesday night.
Jewell Loyd scored 17 points, Kayla McBride had 13 and Taya Reimer 12 for the Fighting Irish (7-0).
Ariel Edwards scored 18 points for the Lady Lions (5-2). Dara Taylor added 14 points and Talia East 12.
Penn State leading scorer Maggie Lucas, who came in averaging 22.2 points per game, was held to just seven points on 1-for-8 shooting.
No. 8 MARYLAND 67, OHIO ST. 55
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Alyssa Thomas had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 8 Maryland overcame a shaky first half to beat Ohio State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
The Terrapins (8-1) led by only three points at the break before returning to make their first four shots as part of an 11-2 run that made it 40-28. Thomas scored six points in the spree. Ohio State (6-4) closed to 56-53 with 2:58 left, but a 3-pointer by Lexie Brown, a layup by Moseley and two free throws by Thomas ended the suspense.
Ameryst Alston scored 18, and Cait Craft and Matina Ellerbe had 11 apiece for the Buckeyes.
