An 18-year-old student was detained for simple possession of marijuana last week after a bag of a green plantlike substance was located under his desk in a classroom. The student also had some of the same green material inside his vehicle in the school parking lot.
An unknown man tried to shoplift a cart containing audio equipment, hooded sweatshirts and beer from a store on Whiskey Road on Monday.

An Aiken man reported identity theft on Tuesday after he said an unknown person obtained his personal information and took out a $29,000 loan in his name.
A Warrenville man reported on Monday that someone went to a Verizon Wireless store, canceled the victim’s plan and opened a new plan under a different name.
An Aiken woman reported on Tuesday that someone made multiple unauthorized transactions on her bank card.
An Aiken man reported on Tuesday that someone damaged the catalytic converter on his vehicle while trying to cut the converter from the engine.
Deputies responded to an alarm at a church on Jerusalem Branch Road in Salley on Tuesday after a door was left unsecured.
A vehicle break-in was reported on Ashley Court in Graniteville on Monday. The owner reported $65 in cash missing from an envelope in the unlocked vehicle.
Additional vehicle break-ins were reported on Tuesday on Edna Street in North Augusta and Old Tory Trail Road.
Burglaries were reported on Beulah Avenue in North Augusta on Tuesday and Kellogg Drive in Aiken on Wednesday.
