Longtime downtown staple The Gun Rack will soon close its doors to open not only a larger store, but also an indoor shooting range, owner Chuck Scott announced on Tuesday.

“We have been hearing from our customers a general need for an indoor gun range in Aiken,” Scott said to a small gathering inside the store Wednesday.

The new location will be at 1563 Edgefield Highway, and is slated to open in early 2014, Scott said. It will include 10 indoor 25-yard lanes, a larger showroom, a classroom to offer concealed-weapon permit training and a members lounge.

Memberships will be available for purchase but clients can also visit the range on a pay-per-visit basis. Weapons will also be available for rent.
