Man allegedly spotted taking pictures of kids

A group of concerned parents said an unknown man stopped his vehicle to take a picture of their children waiting on the school bus at their apartment complex, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The incident happened about 6 a.m. at an apartment complex on Fairway Ridge Road, according to an incident report. An unknown man reportedly stopped his vehicle and took a picture of some children waiting on the school bus at the complex. The man is described as white with gray hair, slim build and glasses. He was driving a silver Dodge Ram pickup.

The suspect took the picture from inside his truck and never got out, according to the report. He told the kids they were “cute” and had them stand together for the picture, then drove off after taking it.

There were no parents at the bus stop when the incident occurred. Police suggested at least one parent be present at the bus stop while children are waiting.

Public safety looking into hit-and-run incident

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating a hit-and-run during which a woman was reportedly struck by a motorcycle.

The incident happened on Washington Circle about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to a report. Officers found the 26-year-old female victim lying on the ground with a friend standing over her. A yellow Suzuki motorcycle was on its side nearby and leaking oil.

Witnesses said the motorcycle struck the woman and a man, and that the driver fled on foot toward President Drive, the report stated. They told police the suspect lived down the street on Washington Circle but could not verify he was the driver because it was dark.

Officers swabbed the keys of the motorcycle for DNA and also placed the driver’s helmet into evidence for DNA testing.
