A 16-year-old boy and his grandfather are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Graniteville on Saturday, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

Witnesses said 67-year-old Ronald W. Wilson, of Whaley Pond Road, went to the home of his estranged wife and shot his grandson, 16-year-old Gerald Wilson, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said. Wilson's estranged wife and the live-in girlfriend of the teenager escaped the home without injury.

The grandmother was able to flag down an off-duty police officer for assistance, who then witnessed the elder Wilson take his life, Carlton said. Wilson had been released from jail for a previous criminal domestic violence issue within the past 72 hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
