Aiken High School students were evacuated as a precaution following a reported fire in the school’s “B” wing, which proved to be limited to a bathroom trash can.

Stanford then put the fire out, and the smoke was contained within the rest room. Most students returned to class by about 9:20 a.m. Those students from the “B” wing at the time of the report returned at about 10 a.m.

Public safety officers are seeking a possible suspect, said. Capt. Maryann Burgess with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
