Aiken County is going for a fresh look and feel to go with its new Government Center.
Council conducted its first of three readings to adopt a new County seal on Tuesday night during a special meeting. If approved, the new seal will be used on County vehicles, letterheads, shirts and more.
The seal is part of a design created by local talent. Students from USC Aiken Professor Michael Fowler's graphic design class drafted several options for the County to consider.
Students Adora Ewuzie, Kaitlyn Gingrey, Grace Poplin, Lauren Rainwater, Robyn Rutland and Breanna Sizemore were selected as finalists by the County staff, which resulted in two different designs. The County collected feedback from both residents and County employees before selecting a final seal to present to Council, which will make the final decision.
The seal includes the new Aiken County Government Center's clock tower, which received 60 percent of the 802 votes cast in the poll.
The seal consists of navy blue, green, white and aqua colors with a valley pictured behind the centered clock tower. If Council decides to accept the design, it will replace the current County green seal that depicts the state of South Carolina with Aiken County emphasized on the map.
“The new Aiken County logo symbolizes the face of a new, more modern, Aiken County Government,” said County Public Information Officer Elizabeth Graves. “The establishment of the new logo is the first step in many exciting changes coming to the County. We are pleased to have worked with the community in creating the logo and want to specifically thank the students and faculty at USC Aiken for their collaboration on this project.”
Council was also given three slogans to consider which included “Beauty, Values, Hospitality,” “Remember the Past, Preparing for the Future” and “Great Expectations, Infinite Possibilities.”
