Jockey Barry Walsh is resting comfortably at Georgia Regents University Hospital.
The rider fell in Saturday’s second race at the Aiken Fall Steeplechase at Ford Conger Field, while in the irons on Robin Hanson’s Mr. Buckaneer, and sustained injuries to the thoracic area of his back, said Bill Gallo, National Steeplechase Association director of racing.
They are currently evaluating as to whether or not Walsh should have surgery or be fitted with a body brace, Gallo said.
“We’re waiting for doctor’s orders,” said Gallo. “He has feeling in all of his extremities. He’s resting comfortably.”
