Accused carjacker arrested
A man sought by Aiken County authorities for two carjacking incidents last week was arrested in Richmond County early on Tuesday.
John Henry Blocker, 49, was detained on two counts each of carjacking and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was placed in the Richmond County detention center, where he will remain until he can appear before an extradition hearing, according to Capt. Eric Abdullah, a spokesman for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
The warrants stem from carjacking incidents that happened on Oct. 15 and on Sunday, Abdullah said. Blocker was arrested without incident by Richmond County deputies just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Deputies have also recovered the victim’s car from the Sunday incident.
The 19-year-old female victim told officers she parked near the Bi-Lo in Clearwater about 6:20 p.m. Sunday when Blocker approached her, pointed a gun and told her to exit the vehicle, according to a sheriff’s report. She ran toward the entrance of the store and saw her vehicle being driven away by the suspect.
Blocker has an additional arrest warrant for receiving stolen goods from an incident in September. All of these cases are still under investigation, Abdullah said.
