An employee of BK Construction in New Ellenton was killed in an accident at the AGY plant Monday.

Jorge S. Rodriguez of Vera Cruz Province, Mexico, was attempting to remove some steel I-beams at AGY when a 30-foot piece of channel iron fell approximately 7 feet and struck Rodriguez in the head, according to the Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

Rodriguez was transported to Aiken Regional where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Newberry. The Coroner's Office is investigating the accident.
