North Augusta throttles White Knoll

NORTH AUGUSTA 48, WHITE KNOLL 22

North Augusta was angry after last week’s 18-14 Region 5-AAAA loss to Lexington.

White Knoll felt all the pain from it on Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets jumped to an early 14-0 lead, then used a 21-point third quarter to take out the Timberwolves 48-22 at the Wolf Den.

Midland Valley Mustangs pull away from Brookland-Cayce Bearcats

MIDLAND VALLEY 35, BROOKLAND-CAYCE 24

GRANITEVILLE — It was a back-and-forth battle with high stakes in Graniteville as Midland Valley (5-3, 2-1 Region 5-AAA) and Brookland-Cayce (6-2, 1-2 Region 5-AAA) were both trying not to lose ground in the region and make their road to the playoffs more difficult. The game had five lead changes, and in the end Midland Valley scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to prevail with a 35-24 victory.

Midland valley head coach Rick Knight said he considered the game to be the Mustangs’ first playoff game.

Strom Thurmond beats Swansea, remains undefeated in region play

STROM THURMOND 44, SWANSEA 21

JOHNSTON — A flurry of big plays on special teams gave Strom Thurmond the burst it needed to put away visiting Swansea on Friday night. The Rebels kept the ball away from the Tigers for nearly the entire second quarter, building a lead they wouldn’t relinquish en route to a 44-21 victory.

The Rebels (7-1, 3-0 Region 5-AAA) are now the only remaining undefeated team in Region 5-AAA play, giving them a leg up in the chase for the playoffs.

Williston-Elko Blue Devils explode in second half

WILLISTON-ELKO 38, RS-M 25

WILLISTON — Williston-Elko High School dominated the second half on Friday night en route to winning their fifth-straight region game, improving to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in region play with a 38-25 victory over the visiting Trojans of Ridge Spring-Monetta. The Trojans fall to an even 4-4 for the season and are now 1-3 in region action.

Wagener-Salley War Eagles dominate Fox Creek Predators

WAGENER-SALLEY 38, FOX CREEK 6

NORTH AUGUSTA — After Wagener-Salley thrashed Fox Creek 38-6 on the Predators’ homecoming, Fox Creek head coach Russ Schneider didn’t mince words. Calling the game a “good old-fashioned tail-whipping,” Schneider said that the game came down to a combination of the War Eagles’ (6-2, 3-1 Region 4-A) execution and the Predators perhaps (5-3, 2-2) being distracted by the week’s festivities.

Pointed win for Silver Bluff Bulldogs

SILVER BLUFF 13, EDISTO 12

PETTICOAT JUNCTION — Shaquez Wright made the play of the game in Silver Bluff’s razor-thin 13-12 win over Edisto in a critical Region 5-AA game Friday.

Although the Bulldogs’ workhorse running back carried the ball 19 times for 127 and a touchdown, it was a play he made on defense that turned out to be the difference in the contest. Silver Bluff (7-1, 3-0) was clinging to a one-point lead with less than six minutes to play in the game after Edisto (5-3, 2-1) scored a touchdown.
