Halloween is in full force at Iron Horse, now renovated with new chef

Lights stream down from the ceiling, as skeletons hang along the walls. Halloween is creeping upon us, and the Iron Horse Bar and Grill has ridden into it head on.

Co-owner Deborah Schier gazed around the restaurant one day and thought the place needed something a little extra.

She first started with the adornments of the Christmas season – a huge hit with customers, she said. Once the holidays went, her staff and her carried on the ritual – now a tradition.

“Every season, we change it up,” Schier said.

That’s not all they do.

Every Sunday, live entertainment takes place on the patio. Bluegrass and country blues band Crying Wolf is a restaurant regular.

Karaoke will kick back up next month, Schier said.

As you soak in the scene, you can enjoy a meal designed from a variety of dishes. On the menu are choices like fish Reuben, Mexican sandwich, hamburger steak or mahi mahi.

Freshly made desserts are now in the works, thanks to new chef Jeremy Collins. For one dessert, he mixes banana pudding and cheesecake.

“Jeremy coming is very exciting for me,” Schier said.

Collins is originally from Barnwell and has gone on to work with many clients and venues in his 10-plus years of cooking.

Some of the meat co-owner Brian Minty and Collins will cook comes from the local butcher Grice’s. Food is also imported Boston and New York.

“They serve big burgers,” Collins said about Iron Horse.

Menu specials are offered every day.

To help update the restaurant’s image, the staff renovated it. The barred windows and chained doors came out, and the new porch with heaters and extended dining room came in.

Other staff members include Katie Holt, Paul Covey and Michael Graham.

Holt won best bartender in the Aiken Standard Reader’s Choice competition this past summer.

Iron Horse is considered a private club, so a membership fee must be paid once a year. The fee is $15 and includes a free appetizer when you sign up, a free drink on your birthday and the ability to bring as many guests as you like.

The staff welcomes bikers, while it serves diners from the Cedar Creek community and Woodside Plantation. Children younger than 21 can come until 10 p.m. Pets are invited, too.

On Oct. 26, Iron Horse will be throwing a Halloween party.

That night, the dining room will be used for dinner and dancing, and Collins will whip up a themed dessert buffet, Schier said. Dancing starts at 9 p.m.

The bar and grill is open from Tuesdays to Thursdays from 5 to 11 p.m.; on Fridays from 5 p.m. to midnight; on Saturdays from noon to midnight; and on Sundays from noon to 11 p.m. It is located at 2510 Storm Branch Road, Beech Island.
