Brenda and George Anderson of Aiken celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 28, 2013. The couple were married on September 28, 1963 in Orangeburg, SC during the height of the Civil Rights Movement while students at South Carolina State University. Brenda and George have witnessed many changes during their years together. George became the first African-American attorney to practice law in Aiken, and Brenda became a speech pathologist with the Aiken County Public Schools for 30 years. The couple became the parents of two children, Kim Anderson Ray, an Aiken attorney, and George Anderson, Jr., a Charleston Federal Probation and Parole Officer. They are also the grandparents of seven grandchildren. Although George continues to work, Brenda retired in 1996. The couple enjoys traveling every year to see their favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in spring training in Arizona; they spend quality time with friends in Jamaica frequently and participate in other diverse hobbies. Brenda and George were the guests of honor at a dinner for family and friends commemorating their anniversary hosted by their children at Frog Hollow Tavern in Augusta, GA, on September 28, 2013.
