South Aiken (3-4, 2-4 Region 5-AAAA) took a tough loss despite a good start from No. 1 singles player Kayla Calvert, who fell 6-7, 6-2, 10-7. Also in action for South Aiken was Meagan Swarthout, Savannah Gantt, Carolina Hicks and Elise Jones in singles, and Audrey Thomas and Audrey Grace Myers took the court in doubles action.

The T-Breds will travel to play North Augusta on Tuesday in their next match.

Midland Valley 4,

Barnwell 1

The Midland Valley girls’ tennis team defeated Barnwell Wednesday night in five singles matches. Seniors Kaitlynn Haney and Eliza Lewis both picked up wins in their final home match, with Haney taking down Savannah Greene 6-4, 7-5 and Lewis beating Myeshia Jeter 6-0, 6-2. CJ Wilson also picked up a win – 6-4, 6-4 over Sara Gainey – and Karah Moulton defeated Lauren Pruitt 6-3, 6-3. Megan Martin fell 8-5 to Octavia Mack.


Aiken 3,

Dutch Fork 0

Aiken (30-3, 7-0 Region 5-AAAA) defended its top spot in the region with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-12 win over Dutch Fork.

Anna Tovo led the team with 17 kills and also had seven digs, while Emily Teelon had a team-best 16 assists and seven digs. Libero Taylor Mabry led the way with 14 digs, and Brittany Crawn contributed with 13 assists.

After a weekend tournament at Wando High School, the Hornets will play a “Think Pink” match for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Tuesday at home against Lexington in a match that also has significance in the region title race.

Midland Valley 3,

Brookland-Cayce 0

Midland Valley (10-7, 6-2 Region 5-AAA) beat Brookland-Cayce 25-16, 25-13, 25-16 for another region win.

Madilyn Reed led the Mustangs with 12 kills, and Gracie Gunter and Kia Hawkins had six kills each. Brittney Campbell led the way with 29 assists for the Mustangs, who will play region opponent Airport on Tuesday.

Silver Bluff 3,

Barnwell 1

Silver Bluff (8-4, 8-0 Region 5-AA) dropped the first game but rallied to stay unbeaten in region play with a 25-27, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 win over Barnwell.

Shelby Jones had 17 kills, and Haley Key was the leading server for the Bulldogs, who will travel to play Edisto on Tuesday.

Ridge Spring-Monetta 3,

McCormick 1

Ridge Spring-Monetta (9-3) jumped out of region play to beat McCormick.

Raven Valentine led the way with 12 blocks, 15 kills and three aces, while Tiffany Gomillion had six kills four aces and six digs. The Trojans will play at North on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Schofield MS 3,

AL Corbett 0

Schofield (9-0) stayed unbeaten with a 25-7, 25-8, 25-6 win over AL Corbett. Mary Gregory had six kills and five aces, while Rebecca Ferguson led the Rams with eight aces. Katie Clamp had six assists for Schofield, which will play at Aiken Middle on Monday.
