Aiken (10-3, 3-2 Region 5-AAAA) got the best of its cross-town rival Tuesday at the H. Odell Weeks Tennis Center.

Kayla Calvert scored a win for the T-Breds in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 over Aiken’s Sabrina Leguizamon, but the Hornets won the rest of the singles matches. Fredericka Tucker took down Savannah Greene 6-2, 6-3, while Frelicia Tucker dropped Megan Swarthout 6-2, 6-4. Regan Gregory beat Caroline Hicks 7-5, 6-4 in No. 4 singles, and Mary Beth Barringer rounded things out with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Elise Jones.

South Aiken’s Lauren Davis and Jaslynn Croft beat Audrey Thomas and Audrey Grace Myers in a nailbiter in No. 2 doubles, taking the victory 7-6, 4-6, 14-12.

Midland Valley 5,

Barnwell 1

Midland Valley scored the dominant victory over Barnwell on Monday, with three players winning in straight sets.

No. 1 singles player CJ Wilson took down Sydney Scruggs 6-0, 6-3, with Kaitlynn Haney beating Anne Marie McCoy of Barnwell 6-2, 6-1. Karah Moulton went three sets with Jacinth Samraj to get the Mustangs a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 win in NO. 3 singles, while Eliza Lewis won 6-1, 6-4 against Makenzie Sanders. The Warhorses’ lone victory came in No. 5 singles, where Caroline Zissette beat Megan Martin 6-4, 6-1.

Tara Smith and Morgan Harris were good for a No. 2 doubles win, defeating Hirali Patel and Kelsey Peay 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.


Midland Valley 3,

Strom Thurmond 0

Midland Valley (6-5, 3-2 Region 5-AAA) picked up the 25-16, 25-15, 15-17 win behind 32 assists by Brittney Campbell.

Gracie Gunter led the Mustangs’ attack up front with 10 kills and also added four assists and five digs. Madilyn Reed had eight kills and two assists for Midland Valley with will play a tri-match at Grovetown (Ga.) today against the hosts and Fox Creek.

Ridge Spring-Monetta 2-2,

Blackville-Hilda 0-0

Ridge Spring Monetta (7-3, 4-2 Region 4-A) swept a region doubleheader, beating Blackville-Hilda 25-10, 25-4 and 25-5, 25-18. Raven Valentine was the star of the first match with three aces, seven kills and three blocks, while Tiffany Gomillion was consistent in both matches, scoring three aces, three kills and four digs in each.

In junior varsity play, the Trojans (4-0) won 25-11, 25-10 with Destiny Ligions securing three aces and four assists.

The Trojans will next play at Williston-Elko on Tuesday.

North Augusta MS 3,

Merriwether 1

North Augusta Middle (4-3) got its record over .500 with a win over Merriwether (4-4) by scores of 16-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-20.

NAMS will next play at AL Corbett on Thursday, while Merriwether hosts Edgewood today.
