Dutch Fork High School’s band edged the North Augusta Yellow Jacket Regiment Band to take first place in the Mustang Classic at Midland Valley High School.

The Columbia school recorded a 93.1 score, followed by North Augusta with 92.95. Both received superior ratings, as did Spring Valley, Laurens, Evans, Clinton and Ninety-Six.

Of the other Aiken County bands, Silver Bluff and South Aiken received excellent ratings, and Ridge Spring-Monetta was awarded a good rating.

As the host band, Midland Valley received no rating at the event, but did get good comments from the judges.

“We played very well for an early contest and for a bunch of young students,” Director David Hastings said via email. “All judges were quite impressed with how well-prepared the bands were for the early date. (They) look forward to seeing where the bands progress to in the coming weeks.”
