According to reports provided by the Aiken Department of Public Safety:

A 17-year-old Aiken High School student was detained for third-degree assault and battery after he allegedly struck a 16-year-old student in the face while in the bus waiting area of the school on Wednesday.

The owner of a Richland Avenue restaurant reported someone tried to scam her into sending money orders. The caller claimed to be from SCE&G and told her she needed to send nearly $1,000 in a money order to keep her power on. The owner checked with the power company, which told her to contact police.

A 26-year-old Aiken man was detained for DUI on Friday after he was seen driving recklessly on Whiskey Road. The man smelled strongly of alcohol and was taken into custody after failing multiple field sobriety tests.

A 27-year-old Ridge Spring man was detained for DUI on Saturday after he was seen speeding on Richland Avenue. The man failed multiple field sobriety tests and provided a blood-alcohol content of .11 percent.

Two unknown men tried to steal about $125 in alcoholic beverages from a store on Richland Avenue on Saturday. The men left the cases of alcohol outside the store entrance and fled after being confronted by a loss prevention officer.

Someone entered the roof of the Aiken Center for the Arts on Laurens Street by damaging three disconnect boxes to the air conditioner unit, causing about $480 in damage.

Two unknown men took several items from a store on Whiskey Road on Sunday without paying by hiding the items in their clothing.

A 37-year-old Charlotte man was detained for shoplifting on Sunday after he took two beers without paying from a store on Richland Avenue.

An air conditioner unit was reported damaged on Lancaster Street on Friday.

A burglary was reported on Photinia Drive on Friday. The owner reported damage to a water heater and an air handler.

A Martinez man reported on Sunday that someone slashed a tire on his vehicle parked on Whiskey Road.

According to reports provided by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office:

A Jackson woman reported a prowler on her property after she saw a man behind a tree in a neighbor’s yard while she stepped outside. The woman said she went inside and locked her door and, several minutes later, heard a loud crash, which was her front window breaking. The prowler did not make entry into the home.

Burglaries were reported in Warrenville on Pelzer Street, Amazing Grace Street and Hillman Street.

A vehicle break-in was reported on Huntsman Drive in Aiken on Sunday. The owner reported the thief broke a window on the car and took a wallet.
