CHARLESTON (AP) — The South Carolina Aquarium Turtle Hospital is getting a new loggerhead turtle patient from New Jersey.
William Kindle, who is on the board of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, N.J., was flying the 75-pound turtle to Charleston on his airplane on Tuesday.
The turtle needs long-term care and is being brought to Charleston.
The turtle was found earlier this month at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Forked River, N.J. It was missing most of its rear right flipper and was not using its rear left flipper either, leaving it basically with no back flippers.
Treatment at the South Carolina Aquarium will consist of physical therapy of the paralyzed flipper and cold laser therapy for the wounded flipper.
