A local sub shop has moved to a larger location to accommodate its growing customer base.

Pat's Sub Shop has left its Whiskey Road location and is now at 728 E. Pine Log Road.

The eatery, noted for what many of its customers have deemed as having the best chicken salad in town, has had a long history in Aiken, according to owner Betty Lambert Walters.

The new shop is twice the size of the prior location on Whiskey Road, Walters said. The space has been refurbished with new floors, furniture and a fresh coat of paint on the walls.

The original Pat's Sub Shop was opened decades ago by Patricia Seely. Walters, a native Aikenite, ran Hero House Subs, and later Pat's Sub Shop starting in 1995.

“I'm a hometown girl, and the old customers, as well as the new, have been very loyal to Pat's Sub Shop,” Walters said.

Walters said the shop makes all of its sandwiches from daily baked bread and freshly sliced vegetables, cheese and deli meats.

Walters added the chicken salad is so popular, the shop has to make a new batch every day. Chickens are baked each day for the much-sought-after menu item.

Pat's Sub Shop is also now serving some additional salad options, homemade desserts and coffee.

Walters said another contributing factor to the eatery's success is the longevity of many of her loyal employees. The shop's manager, Cindy Fauls, has been with the business for 15 years.

Pat's Sub Shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Several new sandwich restaurants have popped up in Aiken in recent months. Jimmy John's, located in the South Park Shopping Center on Whiskey Road, opened earlier this month.

Which Wich will be located at The Shoppes at Brookhaven and is scheduled to open Oct. 15, according to the corporate office.
