Graniteville’s Jonathan Mitchell posted another top finish at the recent Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event in Hilton Head Island. Playing in the boys’ 11-14 year-old division of the Golden Bear Junior Challenge, Mitchell tied for second place.

Less than a month ago, Mitchell finished first in his age group in the Forest Hills Junior Open, another Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event. By finishing in the top 10 in the Golden Bear Junior Challenge, Mitchell was awarded points toward the tour’s year-end honors.

After rounds of 77 and 76 on the 6,272-yard course, Mitchell was tied with Parker Gillam of Cary, N.C. They were four strokes behind James Wohler of Savannah, Ga., whose second-round 73 secured the championship. He shot 5-over (76-73–149) and had four birdies, 23 pars and a field-best performance on par 3s with a 2.8 average. Mitchell had 22 pars in the two rounds that were played under sunny, clear skies.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour was founded in 2008 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Based out of Jacksonville, Fla., the tour administers events across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Ohio.
