RS-M 46, McCORMICK 12

McCORMICK — Travious Wigfall accounted for 223 total yards of offense –more than the entire McCormick High School offense could muster– and scored two touchdowns, and brought down an interception on defense as the Trojans of Ridge Spring-Monetta High School routed the Chiefs 46-12 on Friday night on the road. The lopsided win improves the Trojans to 3-1 for the season and avenged a 33-14 loss at home last season at the hands of the Chiefs, who fall to 0-3.

The Trojans controlled both sides of the ball throughout the game, holding McCormick to 204 total yards of offense while the RSM offense rolled up 304 total yards. The Trojans’ defense recorded one sack and two interceptions and Jared Crute blocked a punt that Terrance Smith scooped up and returned 15 yards for a touchdown.

Ridge Spring-Monetta set the tone early, holding McCormick to a three-and-out on the first series. The Trojans then turned around on their very first play from scrimmage and sent Wigfall down field on a 49 yard touchdown run that saw the senior shed a couple tackles. From there, the Chiefs failed to find an answer for the balanced offensive effort by the Trojans and were manhandled on the other side of the ball.

Five different players scored touchdowns for Ridge Spring-Monetta led by Wigfall, Reggie Preston and Smith all with two touchdowns each. Preston was 3-8 for 46 yards passing including one touchdown pass and also rushed for 17 more yards and another score. Smith was responsible for 30 yards on one touch and the interception, but he made both count as both times he hit pay dirt.

The Trojans will return home next week for homecoming against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
