RABUN GAP, GA – Claudia Evelyn Campbell Rector, 90, of Rabun Gap, GA passed away September 9, 2013 at Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee, GA. Born Aug 23, 1923 in Hartsville, SC to Rev Claude and Mattie Campbell, she attended North Greenville Junior College and the University of South Carolina. Her first husband, the Rev James Norris Johnson of Wagener, SC, passed away in 1946. Claudia later married Marion Mitchell Rector of Greer, SC. She lived and worked for many years in Aiken, SC, where she served as Kindergarten Director at First Baptist Church in that city. In 1974, she and her husband moved to Florence, SC, where they served at Bethea Baptist Home. In 1979, they accepted positions at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, GA and remained there until their retirement in 1992. Preceded in death by both husbands, she is survived by her 5 children, Dwain and wife Cheryl Johnson of Irmo, SC, Jim and wife Tensie Campbell of Rabun Gap, GA and Charleston, SC, Pamela Kerr of St Simons Island, GA, Marion “Skip” Rector of Charleston, SC and Mary Claudette and husband Mike Kingery of Clayton, GA, plus ten grand-children, 17 great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Clayton, GA on Saturday, September 14th, at 1:00 pm, officiated by Rev Jeannie Chapman. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Claudia’s name be sent to: Meals-on-Wheels of Clayton Rabun County Senior Center, 2832 Old Hwy 441S Tiger, GA 30576 Beck Funeral Home, in Clayton, Georgia, is in charge of the arrangements.
