A North Augusta man was cited for simple possession of marijuana on Sunday after officers responded to a call of someone who was scared to walk down the street due to an apparent fear of spiders, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened at the intersection of Pinion Road and Spruce Court in North Augusta about 3:15 a.m., according to a sheriff’s report. The suspect told officers he called law enforcement “due to him feeling scared of walking down the street.” He added that he “feared spiders.”

An officer asked for permission to search the suspect, who said he had “something” in his pocket, according to the report. He revealed the item to be a clear bag with a small amount of a leafy, green substance inside, which he said was marijuana.

The suspect was cited for possession and escorted to his home in North Augusta.
