SILVER BLUFF 34, S'SIDE CHRISTIAN 0

PETTICOAT JUNCTION — The Silver Bluff High School varsity football team relied heavily on its ground attack Friday night as the Bulldogs racked up 344 rushing yards and scored all five of their touchdowns on the ground en route to an easy 34-0 win over Southside Christian High School. In the last two games between the programs, Silver Bluff has out-scored the Sabres 94-7 including last season's 60-7 thrashing.

Behind junior back Myles Corbitt's 112 rushing yards and one touchdown, the Bulldogs recorded 17 first downs, 13 in the first half, to the Sabres' eight. Silver Bluff did not punt the entire game while Southside Christian was forced to punt the ball away five times.

Senior quarter back Jaylen Lawrence went 5-8 for 66 yards with all five completions going to different receivers. Six different ball carriers handled the load on the ground for Silver Bluff, including Shaquez Wright's two rushing scores and 61 rushing yards.

While Southside Christian did manage to get hands on the Bulldog rushers, the Bulldogs proved too elusive and slippery, cutting and spinning out of tackles all night. RJ Stallings was just one example early on as he shook several would-be tacklers in the first quarter before racing 57 yards for the game's second touchdown.

Just as Silver Bluff's offense was clicking on all cylinders, the Bulldog's defense manhandled and pushed Southside Christian's offensive line around all night long, giving up just 55 yards on the ground, much of which came late in the game with a running clock and mostly second-string players in for Silver Bluff. The Bulldogs' Ramon Ruffin recorded a sack in the third quarter, and Greg Dunbar brought down an interception while the defensive unit had its way.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Friday, when in-town rival South Aiken High School comes calling.
