The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce has selected Graniteville Specialty Fabrics as its 2013 Manufacturer of the Year.

Graniteville Specialty Fabrics, as well as the other nominees, were honored before an audience of fellow manufacturers and business leaders at the Manufacturer of the Year Awards Luncheon in Columbia.

The company specializes in custom-coated marine fabrics, military and commercial tentage, awnings, specialty technical fabrics and consumer fabrics.

Recipients of the award must continually strive for manufacturing excellence, make a positive economic impact, remain committed to workforce development, and serve as outstanding community stewards.

For Jim Egan, the company's president, the award was even more special because of the timing. Egan feels the ability to win the prestigious award during economic difficulties is a testament to the business' hard work.

“South Carolina manufacturers were particularly hard hit in a difficult economy – including Graniteville – so to receive this award is very gratifying,” Egan said in the press release. “The award confirms that our commitment to quality, concern for employees and continuous improvement efforts are on target.”

Otis Rawl, president and CEO of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, said, “We are proud that companies like Graniteville Specialty Fabrics are located in South Carolina, advancing our state's vital manufacturing industry. We honor them for their commitment to providing excellent jobs, giving back to the communities they operate in and producing quality products.”

Graniteville Specialty Fabrics has been a recognized manufacturer of coated fabrics for more than 60 years. The business is located at 511 Leitner St. in Graniteville and can be reached at 803-663-2646.
