The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged an Aiken man they believe killed a 2-year-old child.

Ivory James Blackshire, 28, was arrested after deputies were called Thursday to Dallas Circle to assist EMS on a 911 medical call placed by Blackshire, said Capt. Eric Abdullah.

A 2-year-old child at the home was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers for emergency treatment and was later transferred to Georgia Regents University, police said.

Blackshire was then arrested on charges of inflicting great bodily injury to a child/child abuse.

Today, investigators will be amending the existing charges to homicide by child abuse after the child died, Abdullah said.

Blackshire is currently in the Aiken County Detention Center, where bond has already been set on his original charges. Abdullah said the investigation still is ongoing.
